We capped off our last race in Big Bear with a few great results at the Crafts and Cranks festival (crafts as in craft beers, not crafts as in yarn and glitter). This weekend event included an xc, downhill, enduro, a 50 mile endurance event, and an expo and full-on beer tasting festival at the bottom of the Snow Summit lifts - a convenient place to sample California's finest ales and celebrate the race and/or the season.
This was for the most part a classic Big Bear course. Riders went up the dreaded 2N10 fire-road right off the start for miles of climbing at altitude. At the halfway point the course connected with the best and longest sections of single track - Skyline Trail for a rolling and technical return back to the finish at Snow Summit.
Michelle, Andrew, and Tim came into the race with good legs and were stoked to get back up into proper mountains. Even in the thin air, the trails and scenery is unlike anything that we have down at sea level.
The finish results looked like this:
Michelle - 3rd
Andrew - 2nd
Tim - 3rd
The following day, Michelle and Tim met up with riders from another team for a few hours of exploring the other side of mountain range with a climb up to the Butler Peak fire lookout and some single track that's off the race course maps.
